THE GLORIOUS SICILIAN FOOD

As previously mentioned, food is definitely one of the many sicilian wonders.

Sicilian food tradition is so original and rich that it deserved a dedicated post!

Be prepared to a real sicilian food photo medley:

CANNOLO SICILIANO

The first entry couldn’t be anyhing else than the infamous cannolo siciliano, probably the most famous sicilian pastry and possibly the best.

I haven’t met somebody who coud resist its sweet ricotta heart yet.

SICILIAN PASTRIES

Too many to list, sicilian patries are mouthwatering, recall the middle-eastern traditions, and are highly dangerous for your summer shape.

They are made of almonds, jelly, ice cream, fruits, pistachio, and really anything that comes to your mind.

CASSATA SICILIANA

Cassata siciliana is some kind of an almond pudding. It’s delicious, but very sweet and filling.

ITALIAN COFFEE

Italian espresso.. aahh what else..??

PANDARANCIO

I haven’t heard of this cake before visiting Palermo. It’s made with fresh sicilian oranges, and it tastes like summer

ICE CREAM SANDWICH

Well we all know that Italy is famous for ice cream, but sicilians take it to the next level: breakfast with an ice cream sandwich is a sicilian must

GRANITA SICILIANA

The essence of the sicilian food tradition, and the essence of summer.

As Sicily is an island, the fish tradition is great. When it meets italian pasta, it’s, you know the technical term, food porn !!!

FRIED WARES

Fried wares is the right term, believe me.

I was honestly expecting to walk in a shop and be approached by the lady with “do you like this purse? We have it in green, red and fried“.

ARANCINI

Let’s begin with arancini, aka fried rice in a ball.

They come in different flavours, and one can easily be your lunch.

PANELLE

This is something very original, according to me: panelle are basically fried chickpeas flour, and are usually served with bread. They’re actually really good!

SAN VITO LO CAPO BEACH – ONE OF THE FINEST IN ITALY

Summer has officially started only since a few days, and I’m happy to start spamming this blog with posts about sandy beaches and bikinis

My first summer trip this year has brought me to Sicily, the biggest of italian islands, and the biggest island in the whole Mediterranean.

To discover the whole island you would probably need months, with only a week on us we decided to take advantage of a great Ryanair flight deal and fly to Trapani, and from there discover the North-Western part of the island.

We first steered to San Vito lo Capo, one of the finest beaches in Italy and surrounded by majestic and very scenic sharp hills.

San Vito lo Capo beach is white, it reminds of tropical locations, and it’s absolutely astounding.

The only down side is that it’s incredibly commercial, almost the majority of it is owned by private companies renting out beach umbrellas and chairs, and it’s very very crowded.

The village is very small, entirely projected towards the tourism industry, but very cute.

In the evenings it’s full of nice restaurants and places where you can eat some delicious Sicilian meal or have a drink or a Sicilian granita, while during the day it’s so bare that it will leave you questioning if you are in Italy or Morocco instead.

In fact, North African influence in San Vito lo Capo is heavy: the building and architecture reminds strongly about North African regions, and that’s no surprise as the weather is not very different from there, and the local meal is the delicious cous cous!

As you can see in some corners of San Vito is like to be in one if the one-hundreds-and-one-nights tales!

How to reach San Vito lo Capo

The easiest way would be to rent a car for a smoother transfer.

Although San Vito is connected with coaches both to Trapani with AST and to Palermo with Russo.

Why you should visit San Vito Lo Capo

Its white beach, its cristal clear water, its spectacular surroundings and its lively athmosphere make of it a must destination if visiting North-western Sicily.

Near it, you have a lot of less commercial beaches, as Macari, easily accessible by cars, scooters or quadbikes, as well as by boat with one of the many organized tours you can find downtown.

For a wider itinenary, San Vito is very near to the infamous and impressive Zingaro Nature Reserve, which I strongly advise to visit once in the area.

BEST 3 PLACES TO EAT IN BLED

Today I want to take you around Bled discovering what it has to offer at the table!

Here below we listed 3 special places;

a fine restaurant where you can take your date out and score 1000 points,

a local bakery where you can try the best typical Bled’s cake,

and an “ostarija” where you can grab an easy bite or party at night.

Hope they can inspire you!

CASTLE RESTAURANT

Welcome at Castle Restaurant, a classy restaurant with a breathtaking view over the lake located inside the Castle of Bled.

For its view, it’s one of the most beautiful restaurants I’ve ever eaten at, and the food was superb!

They offer a wide selection of meals, including meat, fish and soups.

The Restaurant also offers coffee and cakes, so you don’t necessarily have to eat lunch or dinner to enjoy the view seated on the terrace, at an affordable price!

Also, when paying the castle entrance (9,00EUR) a discount voucher is generally given the visitors to be spent at the Castle restaurant!

If you call and make a reservation for dinner, you don’t have to pay the castle entrance fee.

SLASCICARNA SMON

Oh God, that was hard to type Don’t ask me how you pronunciate it..

This unpronounceable typical bakery is known for serving the best cream cakes in Bled.

What’s a cream cake, and why should you try that?

It’s basically a cream sandwich made of cream and, well, whipped cream. It’s exquisite, but very filling.

Cream cakes are known to be Bled’s traditional cakes.

Slascicarna Smon is located inside the village a bit outside the lake shores, and as we noticed is very famous among locals.

A little bit old style, this place frolicked with grannies having their coffee and cream cake, motorcycle riders stopping for their coffee and cream cake, children harassing their parents for a cream cake and girls gossiping in front of a coffee and cream cake.

Bled people apparently love cream cakes!

OSTARIJA PEGLEZ’N

Ostarija is a typical restaurant.

We stumbled upon Ostarija Peglez’n randomly, being it just steps away from our hotel, the Hotel Golf.

We were attracted by its style, a very cute shabby chic mix, and as we discovered the food and the staff are easy and fun!

At night, the Ostarija change its face, and hosts some of the best parties at the above pub terrace!

RESTAURANTS IN VEGAS

Even though Las Vegas is situated right in the middle of the Nevada desert, you can still, do, buy and eat whatever comes into mind, from italian gelato to fish as tasted in the greek islands, from noodles to a croque monsieur on the Eiffel tower.

In fact, in Vegas you can actually have a croque monsieur on the Eiffel tower, in the Eiffel Tower Restaurant which is located inside the Vegas Eiffel Tower!

We tried it and loved it!

Somehow we managed to get the best table in the entire restaurant, getting the panoramic view over the Bellagio fountains!

The Restaurant is not excessively expensive, and the location is totally worth it!

Having lunch overlooking the Bellagio fountain dance was fantastic, but I think it would be even better for dinner, when the fountain is all lighted up!

Book your table in advance then! 😉

Another place we loved was the “Beijing noodle no.9” inside the Caesar’s Palace. I dig chinese cuisine, but we were attracted mainly by the design of the place: all the restaurant is plunged into a game of white shadows, and our attenction was captured by 4 huge tanks of red fishes placed right in the middle of the hall. Absolutely innovative and endearing. The food is great!
